Their Story
When the call to arms came in 1914, the men of Lydbrook answered with courage and determination. From this small Forest of Dean village, they left their homes, families, and livelihoods to serve King and Country in the Great War.
They served in the trenches of France and Flanders, in the deserts of the Middle East, and on the high seas. They were miners, foresters, labourers, and tradesmen who became soldiers, sailors, and airmen.
Some made the ultimate sacrifice, never to return to the village they loved. This memorial stands in their honour and in remembrance of all those who served.
